David Doty, who has been for nearly 13 years a driver on the Nevada and Marysville stage line, committed suicide in Marysville yesterday by shooting himself through the head with a pistol. The deceased was about 50 years of age and a native of Ohio.

The Sentinel of the 16th says: A searching party of miners and citizens left town yesterday morning at daylight for the purpose of finding the body of Robert Young, who was buried in a snow slide on Prospect Mountain.

Potatoes figuring in war: An eastern writer assures us that the present war is not the only war in which potatoes have figured prominently. Less than 150 years ago, during the war of the Bavarian succession, the question of potatoes was an urgent one. The struggle ultimately resolved itself into one for the control of the food supply ... known in history as the Kartoffelkrieg, or “the Potato War.”

Numerous Carson City residents, anxious to see the V&T’s “new” engine, recently purchased from the abandoned Copper Belt line in Lyon County, were on hand Saturday when the engine chugged into the Carson station siding.

Police Chief Elmer Bristol said Saturday he was joking with fellow officers when he checked a machine gun out of the department’s armory after receiving a threat to his life. “I feel I’m capable of taking care of myself,” he said, after attending a city budget session. “I was concerned more today about budget than I was the threat.”

Tow truck operators won’t be allowed to cruise parking lots and tow away improperly parked vehicles under a regulation adopted Friday by the Public Service Commission.
