Three candidates apply for open Carson City School Board seat

Three people are in the running for the vacant seat on the Carson City School Board.

The trustees will interview and decide on a candidate to fill the District 6 seat at the school board meeting on Tuesday. The three candidates are Brian Brabazon, Mark Krueger and Donald Carine.

Brabazon has been in Carson City for 17 years and raised four children through the school system. He currently works for Southwest Gas and volunteers with the Special Olympics, Alzheimer’s Association and donates to Food for Thought and Veterans Guest House.

Krueger has also been a Carson City resident for 17 years and works as the senior deputy Assistant General for the state of Nevada. He has also worked with the Lyon County and Carson City District Attorney offices and as a member of the Nevada Department of Business and Industry Division of Insurance. Krueger is also highly active with the Carson High School senior projects every year, is the former president and board member with the Children’s Museum and a mentor for high school students with job shadowing programs.

Carine has been in Carson City since 2006 and is a marketing communications with the Hamilton Company in Reno. He has worked as a Cub Scout leader, a member and treasurer for the Seeliger Elementary Parent Teacher Organization and an active supporter of the music and band programs in the school district. Carine has also volunteered with the Carson Tigersharks and Carson High swim team.

“So we really got three good candidates,” said Superintendent Richard Stokes.

The three will be interviewed Tuesday night.

“It will be a good opportunity for the community to come and hear their responses (they give to the trustees),” Stokes said.

The board will meet in a workshop about the Empower Carson City 2022 strategic plan starting at 5:30 p.m. The regularly scheduled school board member starts at 7 p.m.

The vacancy occurred after board member Susan Hart resigned to move out of state.
