Under the guidance of Misty Benner and helpers, the third thru sixth grade students have begun the process of learning how to make a traditional Northern Paiute shelter. They are learning a sustainable way of gathering materials, the role of each person in the construction process, and the cultural beliefs associated with each. The students will learn how to choose and gather the willows and tules needed for the construction of their tule house. They will learn how to gather the materials in a respectful and sustainable way; once all the materials have been gathered, they will learn how to construct their nobe starting with the willow frame and then making the tule panels that will cover the frame. ❂
