The last Carson City Little League hope for a District 1 championship ended Monday night when Reno American knocked off Carson City’s 12-year-old all-star team, 13-4, at Governors Field.
Carson, 1-2, drops down into the consolation round, and will play Thursday at 5 p.m. on Field 3.
The game was basically over after one inning, as Reno American scored six runs after two outs.
Jack Sheltra singled, Roman Perini walked and winning pitcher Wyatt Culbertson hit a three-run homer. Ryan Davis followed with a double, though the ball should have been caught. After two walks and a wild pitch, Liam Reed doubled home three runs.
The winners stretched their lead to 8-0 in the second. A.J. Bell led off the inning with a homer and Culbertson added a run-scoring single.
Carson cut the lead to 8-3 in the third, as Caleb Morgan led off the inning with a homer. Cooper Eaton doubled and reached third on Tyler Palmer’s infield out. Cameron Boeckman reached on a dropped third strike, as Eaton scampered home when the throw went to first. The third run scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Reno added three in the fifth, two coming on a single by Perini.
Carson scored its final run in the fifth when Boeckman scored on a passed ball.
Eaton and Morgan led the offense. Eaton had a double and two singles while Morgan added a homer and single.
Carson 11s now 0-2
On Sunday, the Carson 11s dropped a 5-1 decision to Reno National.
It was a 2-1 game until the fifth when Reno National hit two solo homers. Tristan Hawkins pitched four strong innings for the locals, who return to action Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Hits by Keagan Ferris and Jordan Tabaracci accounted for Carson’s lone run.
