Mesa Rim Climbing & Fitness Center opens for business Saturday, August 5, 2017. A soft opening begins next week during which current pass holders and select community members are invited to explore the new facility in its final weeks of development.
The center, which has a strong reputation in the San Diego area for its unparalleled customer experience, broke ground on its Reno location late last year. The region’s climbing community has been buzzing about it since.
“We have had our eye on Reno for a really long time,” said Marlowe Kulley, the Reno facility’s co-founder and manager. “There is already an incredible climbing community here and it’s growing. We hope to further support that growth and welcome newcomers to the sport. We want to show people that climbing doesn’t have to be a daunting or intimidating experience. Anyone can do it.”
The 24,000-square-foot facility offers world-class indoor climbing facilities including 52-foot climbing walls and more than 23,000 square feet of climbing terrain, as well as a yoga studio, gear shop, strength training area, community lounge, sauna, locker rooms, private event rooms, fitness classes, youth programs, and much more. The climbing terrain caters to beginners and expert climbers featuring dozens of top-rope and lead climbs along slab walls, steep overhangs, dihedrals, four unique crack systems as high as 50-feet tall, and a dedicated bouldering area.
“This is a place I’d invite some of my most extreme friends to check out with me, but also would bring my friends who have never climbed and know that everyone would have a great time,” said Kelly Benson, a local climber and founding member. “I’m excited to have a one-stop-shop for training in Reno. This type of facility is rare in general, and the likes of which is totally new to our area.”
In the coming weeks, select community groups including Patagonia employees, founding members and select climbers will visit the gym on an invite-only basis. The soft opening will allow staff to craft its service to meet the needs of a new community. The public is then invited to a Grand Opening at the facility August 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
