The Northern Sierra Ladies Gun Club was presented a certificate of appreciation for its fundraising efforts to benefit the Carson City Gun Range.

The certificate was presented on behalf of Carson City, the Board of Supervisors, and the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department by Jennifer Budge, Parks and Recreation director, and Mayor Bob Crowell at the Board of Supervisors meeting on July 6.

The club was awarded for being instrumental in coordinating two fundraisers — the 2015 Shootout for the Future and the next year’s Shootout for the Future 2.

Money raised at both events allowed Carson City to apply for and receive a matching-fund grant from NDOW.

The funds will be used for improvements to the gun range including restrooms, entry gates, signage and grading.

Founded in 2013 as a club in which women could learn safe and proficient handling of firearms, the club features members from throughout Northern Nevada and California.

It holds practice shoots monthly and educational meetings every two months. Members at all levels, from beginner to advanced shooters, are welcome. Spouses may become associate members and participate in club events.
