WASHINGTON D.C. – Carina Black, the first executive director of the Northern Nevada International Center at the University of Nevada, Reno, is joining state leaders from across the country in Washington D.C. on June 13 and 14 to urge Nevada lawmakers on Capitol Hill to fully fund the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development in the wake of the Administration’s proposal to slash funding by 32 percent.
The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition is convening its 2017 State Leaders Summit with more than 500 business, military, government, non-profit, and faith leaders from across the country at a time of growing global challenges from ISIS and Ebola to the refugee and famine crises.
Nevada is home to some of the largest global brands and organizations with rapidly growing international operations in emerging markets. Last year, Nevada exported $9.8 billion in goods overseas, and trade supported more than 367,000 local jobs, making America’s global leadership a key issue for the state.
In her role, Black is working to grow university programs through the U.S. Department of State and USAID.
