Below is a list of ongoing and upcoming events, as published in the June 2017 edition of First Nation’s Focus, for a timeframe of June 26-July 18.

Paiute Language Class — 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wadsworth Community Building, 320 Pyramid St., Wadsworth.

Substance Abuse Support Group —6-7 p.m. Tuesdays, Sumunumu Resource Center, 460 W. Main St., Fernley. Topics discussed include narcotics abuse, alcohol abuse and anger management.

Women’s Circle Craft Night and Potluck — 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, 101 Big Bend Ranch Road, Wadsworth.

Victim Services Program Women’s Advisory Committee — 5-6:30 p.m., second Wednesday of the month, Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, 101 Big Bend Ranch Road, Wadsworth.

Scrapbooking for Beginners — 5-6:30 p.m., first Wednesday of the month, Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, 101 Big Bend Ranch Road, Wadsworth. Call 775-575-9444.

Teen Dating Violence Support Group — 5:45-6:30 p.m., third Wednesday of the month, Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, 101 Big Bend Ranch Road, Wadsworth.

Yoga — The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe holds classes weekly on Wednesday. Hours and location vary. Call 775-574-1018.

Weekly Teen Parenting Class — 6-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sumunumu Resource Center, 460 W. Main St., Fernley.

Nuumu Yadoha Language Classes — 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays. Sponsored by the Bishop Paiute Tribe, the classes are held weekly. For location and other details, contact the tribal office at 760-873-3584.

Literacy Skills for Parents — Come to Carson City’s TANF office, 2310 S. Carson St., at 1 p.m. Thursdays to learn how to help your children develop strong reading and writing skills. The class also includes information from The Twelve Universal Laws of Success by Herbert Harris, articles from the U.S. Department of Education, as well as Native based resources.

Weekly Community Market — 5 p.m.-dusk, Thursdays, Paiute-Shoshone Cultural Center, 2300 W. Line St., Bishop, Calif.

Talking Circle — 5:30-6:30 p.m. on the second Friday of the month at the Paiute-Shoshone Cultural Center, 2300 W. Line St., Bishop, Calif.

Sexual Assault Support Group — Meets 5-6:30 p.m. on the fourth Friday of the month at 101 Big Bend Ranch Road, Wadsworth.

Freedom to Be You — 1-2 p.m. Saturday, 101 Big Bend Ranch Road, Wadsworth. The women’s educational support group meets weekly to discuss a different topic each session. Childcare is available on site.

Beading/Regalia Making — 6 p.m. every other Thursday through July 27, HV Recreation Room, 9075 Eagle Canyon Drive, Sparks. Beading/regalia making circle with business tips on how to make extra income from your creations. For information, contact Melissa at 505-603-5157. Classes are sponsored by Great Basin Native Artists and IDRS.

7th Annual Tribes in Recovery Gathering — 10 a.m., July 1, Sycuan Indian Reservation, 5577 Dehesa Road, El Cajon, Calif. Featuring five Native American speakers, native jewelry, T-Shirts, raffles, fry bread and food vendors. The free event offers gifts from area casinos and tribes. Fourth of July Youth Rodeo — 10 a.m., July 1, Shoshone Paiute Tribes, Owyhee, Nev. Several events for youth in age brackets of 6 & under, 7-11, 12-15, and 16-18, including dummy roping, barrel racing, steer riding and cow riding, among others. Fourth of July Adult Rodeo — 10 a.m., July 2, Shoshone Paiute Tribes, Owyhee, Nev. Events include, among others, ladies steer stopping, barrel racing, cow riding and horse roping. Tribal Council Meeting — 5:30 p.m., July 13, Bishop Paiute Reservation, 2490 Diaz Lane, Bishop, Calif.

Annual Pyramid Lake Triathlon — 8 a.m., July 8, Sutcliffe Marina, 2500 Sutcliff Loop Road, Reno. For information and to register for the sprint triathlon, find “2017 Pyramid Lake Sprint Triathlon” on Facebook.

Cultural Advisory Board — 6 p.m. July 11, Paiute Shoshone Cultural Center, 2300 W. Line St., Bishop, Calif. Meets on the second Thursday of the month.

Elders Advisory Board Meeting — 10 a.m., July 14, Bishop Indian Tribal Elders, 350 N. Barlow Lane, Bishop, Calif.

Redbird’s Children of Many Colors Intertribal Powwow — 10 a.m., July 14-16, Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark, Calif. The event offers Native American song, dance, drums, arts, crafts, foods and traditional dwellings. An open flute circle will be held the Friday before the powwow. 3rd Annual Rainmakers 19 & Under Basketball Tournament — June 30-July 2, Reno-Sparks Indian Colony Gym, 34 Reservation Road, Reno. Division: 19 and under boys/girls. Awards: champions, runner-up, third place, all-stars, MVPs, most 3’s and sportsmanship. Entry is $275 (must pay before first game). 31st Annual Navajo Nation 4th of July Celebration — July 1-2, Window Rock Sports Center, Window Rock, Ariz. Division: Open men: $140; coed: $140; high school boys and girls: $130. Contact 928-871-6478. Awards will be given to first through third places, MVP and all tourney. The event carries an eight-team roster.
