FEMA briefing for Northern Nevada agencies to be held

The Nevada Division of Emergency Management will conduct a public assistance applicant briefing for local, state, and tribal governments and certain private non-profit organizations on March 7.

The briefing is one of the first steps in the Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance process for those affected by the storms, floods and mudslides that occurred Jan. 5-14.

Applicants will receive an overview of the PA program and process and will also be able to submit their Request for Public Assistance.

Public Assistance applicants may be eligible for reimbursement for at least 75 percent of eligible disaster-related expenses. Eligible disaster-related expenses include debris removal, overtime for law enforcement responding to the disaster, and repairing or rebuilding facilities, buildings, roads and bridges.

Qualified entities from Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe counties, Carson City, and the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, and the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California can attend.

The briefing isn’t for the public. The program doesn’t provide financial assistance to homeowners or individuals.

The briefing is at 5 p.m. at the Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Management, 2478 Fairview Drive.

Applicants may submit their RPA to the state of Nevada, prior to the briefing, via email to Suz Coyote, Nevada Division of Emergency Management, State Recovery Officer at scoyote@dps.state.nv.us by March 19.
