150 Years Ago

Sea serpent? The great sea serpent was captured on the coast of France. Witnesses say it was 13 feet in length, perfectly cylindrical, four and a half inches in diameter with eyes surrounded by a fine thread of a flaming red color. The discovery of this snake is highly interesting in character.

W. Kitzmeyer, Brick Store, Corner of Carson and Telegraph streets.” (The Kitzmeyer building is still there.)

Gift to the Sagebrush Club: Governor Sparks has given the elaborate chair of Elk horns to the Sagebrush Club. The chair is made entirely of horns and was occupied by the president when he visited Carson — valued at $250.

Alexander Bell, telephone inventor: March 3 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone. According to R. W. Bruce, telephone company manager, highlights of the centennial will be a full hour radio program over NBC. An unusual telephone hookup will be demonstrated at the unveiling ceremonies and will carry the voices of Bell’s two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert H. Grosvenor of Murray Hill and Mrs. David Fairchild in Miami, Fla. Bell was Scottish by birth, but American by choice, when he entered the United States at the age of 24 to be a teacher for the deaf in Boston.

Roving senator candidate: Cindy Winters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Winters of Carson City, is a candidate for roving senator for the junior class at the University of Nevada. She has been an honor roll student each semester since entering the University of Nevada and an instructor with the Carson City Junior Ski Patrol.
