Governor’s Mansion: The governor signed the bill for a gubernatorial mansion in Carson. The war of the clans of this city will have a voice in selecting the site for the structure at a public meeting — approved is $45,000 to build the mansion.

Tuberculosis: Six thousand state residents were given chest X-rays in 1946. The X-ray machine is operating under the sponsorship of the Nevada Tuberculosis Association. In the first 3,500 films read, 10 cases of active tuberculosis and 58 suspicious cases were found.

Leisure Hour Club: Mrs. Dominique Laxalt, Mother of Paul Laxalt, currently Nevada’s Governor, has been nominated as “Mother of the Year” by the Leisure Hour Club.

Then and now photo: V&T locomotive No. 27 sends up a smoke plume in front of the depot at Washington and Carson streets on May 31, 1950, the last day of operation for the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. The old depot on the far left is now the Masonic Hall. The locomotive is being restored by the Nevada State Railroad Museum.
