Renown Health is opening a new family practice clinic at The Summit Mall in South Reno this spring.
The clinic will provide primary care services and a laboratory at the outset with the possibility of increasing services in the future.
Dr. McCormack, medical director of Renown Medical Group, explained in a telephone interview with NNBW that the clinic was also designed to provide a more inviting and comfortable setting for those seeking its services.
“When patients come in, we wanted it to look like their living room,” Dr. McCormack said of the facility.
The space will also be flexible to add more services, including a conference room where staff can confer with patients on healthcare matters.
Other services were discussed by Renown brass, but Dr. McCormack said they might wait for what’s on the horizon in the healthcare market. She added there’s some uncertainty in the healthcare industry with the potential impact of President Donald Trump and his administration’s proposed repeal and replacement of Obamacare.
The South Reno clinic currently will have a staff of 11. Renown is looking into adding at least one more primary care physician and one more nurse practitioner at the facility.
The 10,000-square-foot clinic covers three vacant storefronts, including one that was previously occupied by Jos. A Bank, a menswear store that relocated near Meadowood Mall.
Shaheen Beauchamp Builders LLC, a commercial general contractor based in Carson City, was chosen as general contractor on the project. The architecture and design was performed by Eric Fong of MBA Architects + Interior Design, structural engineering by Forbes Engineering, and mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineering was completed by MSA Engineering Consultants. All companies are based in Reno.
Demolition was completed in November, with plumbing and electrical and interior finishes being completed in February. At least a dozen local contractors were used to complete the medical facility.
Dr. McCormack added the Truckee Meadows’ growing population, improved economy and greater access to health insurance facilitates the need for more primary care clinics in the region, particularly in the South Meadows area.
“We had been looking at making a big push in primary care clinics,” Dr. McCormack said. “It appears as more people come into the region, they’re either moving into South Reno or in Spanish Springs.”
Renown now has 12 primary care clinics throughout Reno-Sparks, Carson City, Fallon and Fernley. The healthcare provider also recently opened a primary care clinic in the Caughlin Ranch area.
