WhyReno.org is one-stop resource for recruiters

The Reno-Sparks-Lake Tahoe region is a great place to live and work. But how do you communicate that to businesses and individuals being recruited to make the move?

A lot can be found online, but it’s scattered all over the place, Valerie Cotta, program manager workforce development for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), told members of Northern Nevada Human Resources Association (NNHRA) March 8 during a meeting at Toiyabe Golf Club.

To gather a wealth of information and resources in once spot, EDAWN and other organizations have created a one-stop online source. The NNHRA meeting was the first roll out of www.WhyReno.org.

The home page includes a map of California and Nevada that shows where to find Reno-Sparks-Lake Tahoe then goes on to highlight several recent accolades for the area:

Tesla chose Reno as the best business climate to build the Gigafactory

National Geographic voted Reno a Top 10 Emerging Ski Town

And Livability ranked Reno in the 2016 Top 100 Best Places to Live.

The site is a group effort by the cities of Reno and Sparks, the counties of Washoe, Lyon, and Storey, the State of Nevada, EDAWN, NNHRA and the Reno/Sparks Association of Realtors.

A toolkit on the website highlights the quality of life of the area under the headings of Art, Culture & Entertainment, Special Events, Recreation, Livability, Healthcare, Religion, Education, Real Estate, Volunteer, Business Environment, and Media Coverage.

“This is an amazing region with how much is going on and the incredible environment,” Cotta said.

WhyReno.org makes it easier to explain all the benefits of the area to others, she said.
