Possibly wet and cooler weather set this weekend

Keep those umbrellas and water resistant coats handy – moderate rain showers are in this weekend’s forecast, said National Weather Service of Reno.

On top of valley rain this weekend, the warm stretch in temperatures are about to lay off for a while; temperatures are expected to drop along with gusty winds and snow on the mountains Saturday into Sunday.

Most of the showers are coming from Oregon’s border, said NWS. Those showers will linger into Northern Nevada by Sunday.

For Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, the area will experience early spring storms, but nothing destructive compared to the last two months.

The month of March tends to be a month where temperatures fluctuate as spring approaches, NWS said.

Although this storm system isn’t going to be an overly heavy rain event, communities in the area are recommended to cooperate and keep lookout for rivers, creeks and streams.

This time the snowmelt will be contributing to crest levels and water flow issues but only with smaller creeks, especially with saturated grounds said NWS.

Flood prone areas are recommended to keep flood mitigations in place for snow melt. Gail Powell of Nevada Department of Public Safety, said the state has five incidents open ranging from response, recovery, mitigation, and another presidential disaster declaration pending.

Other than caution, NWS said this system is described as a “brush-by.”
