Epidemic: Doctors in Reno are discussing the subject of spinal meningitis. In the past 10 days, 10 deaths have occurred in that city that are diagnosed as cerebral spinal meningitis, and the community is becoming somewhat alarmed.

Corbett/Fitzsimmons fight: On St. Patrick’s Day 50 years ago the “city was crowded with sports and more people pouring in for the famed battle of the century between heavyweight champion and contender, Bob Fitzsimmons.” The 1897 headline in the Appeal said, “Fitzsimmons in 14 Rounds.”

Body of President John F. Kennedy: His body was transferred in secrecy to its permanent resting place at the Arlington National Cemetery. President Johnson joined Kennedy’s widow and other family members in a ceremony at the granite memorial where the slain president will rest.

Hale-Bopp: It is the brightest comet in 40 years and a source of calamitous predictions that it would smash into the earth. Hale-Bopp is creating imaginations and paranoia and now is visible to the naked eye. It will grow larger as it approaches.
