Man safe after falling into Carson River

A man is safe after a 911 call claiming someone was in the Carson River came in Monday afternoon.

The man, identified as a 38-year-old Carson City man, allegedly fell into the river around 3:46 p.m. Monday. He told officials that he was walking his bike along Boyd’s Bridge when the ground gave way underneath him and he went tumbling into the river.

A resident near the 5000 block of Laurel Road called 911 after hearing someone yell “help” from the river.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department responded to the area to attempt to locate the victim, however, were unable to locate him on the river at several access points. The Fire Department prepared to deploy its Swift Water Team to attempt to locate the victim, but it wasn’t needed.

“Typically we have (swift water) techs throughout every shift so if we have a call like this,” said Fire Captain Chris Mason. “This one sounded like it may be a search and rescue because we had no person sighted and we weren’t sure of a location.”

But the unit didn’t have to deploy, as the victim had extricated himself from the river at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park. Deputies located him walking west on 5th Street and Brittany Court and were able to make contact with him.

Paramedics treated the victim who had only minor cuts and bruising.
