The forestry division’s 30 new recruits will get hands-on experience next week at the annual NDF Wildland Rookie Academy.
A spokesman said the academy simulates a wildland fire with hands-on exercises and classroom discussions of topics including fire behavior, fire line construction, the use of hand tools and engine operations and fire shelter deployment.
The exercise will run form May 14-19 at the NDF’s Eastlake station in Washoe Valley.
