Intern program for students with disabilities

The state is offering a new Summer Youth Internship program to provide summer employment for students with disabilities.

The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation is managing the program that will place students in a variety of agencies. Students aged 18-21 will get the opportunity to learn job skills and career possibilities in areas such as maintenance, clerical work reception, customer service and media relations.

They will work a minimum of 20 hours weekly for up to six weeks beginning June 19.

Interns will be paid $8.25 an hour and be provided worker compensation insurance but there will be no charge to agencies providing the jobs. The announcement also says DETR will provide all necessary job support including accommodations for the students in the program.
