SaveMart is partnering with Ron Wood Family Resource Center for the 2017 Peanut Butter Roundup to help feed hungry kids over the summer.
The food drive is meant to raise awareness of the struggles families experience during the summer break when their kids don’t have access to school meals. It is estimated that nearly 2.3 million children go hungry a night.
Every time SaveMart shoppers buy Jif peanut butter or Smucker’s jelly, the stores will offer a buy one, give one promotion for them to donate to the roundup. This year, SaveMart’s private label, Sunny Select, will also be a part of the deal.
This year, Ron Wood will get the donated peanut butter and jelly from the event.
There will be collection bins located at the check stand area for the donations. In addition, the roundup feature will also be available at the cash register for shoppers to roundup their grocery tab and 100 percent of the change will benefit local food banks, like Ron Wood.
Last year, SaveMarts across Northern Nevada and California raised 10 tons of peanut butter- enough to make a 250,000 sandwiches. Their grocery tab roundup also raised nearly $10,000.
Shoppers are also encouraged to use #PeanutButterRoundup on social media to post photos or brag about donations to help the cause.
