GARDNERVILLE — It can be overwhelming to stay in touch with the latest technology, but a new Gardnerville business offers a way for residents to hone their computer skills.
Located at 1503 Highway 395 Suite L, Smarter Staff Training is a computer training center that provides classes, workshops, and staff training to improve computer skills with hands-on activities and live instructor support.
Classes offered include MS Office 2016, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Windows 10, computer essentials and Quickbooks.
Owner and instructor Careen Sibbring saw a need for computer classes in the Carson Valley, not only for individuals, but businesses as well.
“Businesses upgrade software frequently, but rarely invest in their staff to learn the newest features and increase work productivity,” she said. “With technology constantly changing, it’s important to update your own skills to increase the speed of your productivity.”
The Gardnerville resident holds a background in adult education and worked as a lead office skills instructor at a business training center and an instructor for a local Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. She said she was constantly multitasking and updating her skills and believes in the importance of keeping technology skills modernized and efficient.
Sibbring said students choose which sessions and days of the week work best with their schedules when enrolling. Half-day or full-day classes are available.
Classes are offered Monday through Thursday. Morning sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon sessions are 1 to 4 p.m.
“Workshops are a great way to update skills in a shorter amount of time, lasting approximately three hours,” she said. “Smaller class sizes ensure the instructor keeps everyone on pace and no one falls behind.”
As a sign in her office reads, “Work smarter, not harder.”
