Water restrictions in Carson City go into effect Thursday.

The restrictions designed to prohibit waste of running water will stay in effect through Sept. 30. Hand watering of flowers, shrubs and vegetables is allowed but should only be done when they need a little extra water. Watering shouldn’t be done when temperatures are high or when it’s windy as well.

Through Sept. 30, watering will be allowed three days a week. Odd watering days are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and even watering days are Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. No watering is allowed between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. or on Mondays. Odd and even watering days are determined by the last number of the address.

An exemption may be requested and is subject to approval. The following exemptions could be allowed:

Carson City licensed commercial gardeners or commercial caretakers who are on the premises at the time watering is taking place

New lawns, for 21 days from planting or installation

Vegetable gardens

Complexes that file for and receive approval of an irrigation plan

Exemptions are also available for the handicapped and disabled.

For information, call 887-2355, extension 7397 or visit www.carson.org/government/departments-g-z/public-works/water/water-restrictions.
