The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is participating in the sixth annual #GivingTuesday, a global day of online giving, on Tuesday.
Katie Leao, chief professional officer for The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, said the movement provides a platform to share what the clubs do for Carson City families by offering homework support and tutoring, art, health and fitness programming and a safe, fun environment in which children ages 6 to 18 can grow and thrive.
“Investing in the Boys & Girls Clubs is an investment in our community and our future,” Leao said. “Every $1 you invest in positive change for kids represents a $10 return in services to our kids and families.”

In 2016, millions of people in 98 countries came together to support global causes. More than $177 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.
“We all know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but Giving Tuesday is actually about the spirit of the holiday season because it allows communities the opportunity to contribute to the programs that improve quality of life,” Leao said.
#GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
“We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y. “As we embark on our sixth year of #GivingTuesday, we are encouraged by the early response from partner’s eager to continue making an impact in this global conversation.”
