Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., has signed the petition that would move the DACA legislation to a floor vote before the end of the year.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program is intended to protect illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. when they were children from being arrested and kicked out of the country.

“Signing this discharge petition represents the only tool left to me as an individual member of Congress to keep my word by doing everything I can to bring the DACA issue to the House floor for a vote,” he said. “As I have said before, it’s impossible to defend doing nothing in circumstances like this.”

The discharge petition would bypass the committee process that, Amodei said, has produced no results in the last 75 months.
