Scarce: A South Carolina editor says that money is now so scarce in their state that when two dollars meet, they are such strangers to each other — that their respective owners have to introduce them.

Doing good work: Nevada is indebted to C. W. Friend, of Carson City, for his meteorological observations. The establishment of a “weather indication office” in Carson City, Winnemucca and Keeler is due to him. Mr. Friend has been furnishing Carson City with weather indications at his own expense. The government officials have received this benefit without giving him due credit. The zeal of Mr. Friend is such that he will have formulated a system of observations for Nevada that will reflect the greatest credit upon him and give the people an unsurpassed weather service. Carsonite to write play: Phillip Verrill Mighels has been commissioned by Brady and Grismer, manager of Phoebe Davis and “Way Down East” to write a new play for Miss Davis, depicting life in California. Folks believe that he is the one man that can make good on this subject.

Fan Dance Man: California resident James Kinney is cooling his heels in the capital city cell, sorrowing because this word of warning came too late. He is charged with indecent exposure — dancing down the hallway of a local hotel on Thanksgiving night without a stitch of clothing. Justice of the Peace Roy Whitacre ruled that if Kinney wants to put on any more public appearances, he’ll first have to provide $500 bail.

Photo caption: Fourth graders from Bordewich-Bray toured the Roberts House in conjunction with Nevada history studies. Inside the house they saw furnishings typical of a family living in the Civil War period. Outside they learned about the Roberts family and early Carson City history.
Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
