Nevada Congresswoman Jacky Rosen unveiled a new award program through her office aimed at highlighting Nevada women who are studying or working in STEM fields.
The 'Nevada Women in STEM' award will showcase a new woman on a monthly basis with an interesting story to tell or an impressive career path to share for women aspiring to work in these fields. To nominate a Nevada woman in STEM for this award, fill out this online form.
“Before I ever ran for office, I built my career in the private sector as a computer programmer - a field of work that has long been dominated by men," said Rosen. "I know firsthand the importance of breaking gender stereotypes and ensuring women get a fair shot at good-paying jobs in STEM fields. We’ve made a lot of progress since I first started working in the tech industry, but women are still vastly underrepresented in science, tech, engineering and math jobs. This gender gap is depriving our economy and our workforce of talented women who could be helping solve our biggest challenges. Every month starting in October, my office will showcase these female role-models and highlight a Nevada woman in STEM.”
Congresswoman Rosen built her career as a computer programmer and systems analyst in Southern Nevada, working for some of the state's biggest companies. Now a member of the House Space, Science and Technology committee, Rosen is dedicated to lifting up other women who are doing outstanding work as students or practitioners in STEM fields.
