The Nevada Rural Housing Authority in partnership with CPLC Nevada, Inc., a Nevada nonprofit affiliate of Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc., are ready to develop a 40-unit affordable housing project in Dayton. Ground will be broken on Gold Canyon Estates, located at the corner of Kate Peak Drive and Retail Road, behind the Smith’s Food & Drug shopping center, during a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22. The project is the first major effort of its kind, and will address the critical need for affordable housing availability in the area. In August 2016, Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) signed a formalized agreement with CPLC Nevada, Inc., a Nevada nonprofit corporation and affiliate of Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC), a community development corporation based in Arizona, to purchase property in Dayton, on which CPLC would eventually develop single-family housing. Leaders from the Nevada Governor’s Office, U.S. and State Senator liaisons, area Congressional representatives, as well as state, county and local officials are scheduled to attend.
