Art classes slated at Carson City gallery

Local art enthusiasts may be happy to hear Carson City Art Gallery and Pottery is offering several classes in the coming weeks.

Learn to transform slabs of clay into functional teapots with Rich McGregor, “teapot builder extraordinaire,” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Sept. 8-19. The cost is $125. The instructor uses his chemical engineering and math teaching background when he configures his clay creations.

One-on-one instruction will be available in a five-week pottery class with Robin E. McGregor, owner of the studio.

The class — titled “Clay with a Robin!” — will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesdays from Sept. 11 through Oct. 19.

The cost is $175, plus materials. The fee includes open studio time.

Robin said she founded Carson City Pottery in 2010 to share her love of clay with the community.

She’s been playing with the material for more than 26 years and studied formally at the New Hampshire Institute of Art after taking classes in a few teaching studios. She taught pottery at the Currier Museum of Art before opening her home studio to students.

She believes there are no rules when it comes to art.

Finally, Sept. 15 is another class in the “Let’s Paint!” acrylic pour series taught by Dianne Butrick.

Butrick is versed in several art forms. Join her from 10 a.m. to noon at a cost of $30.
