Carson City Nevada Triad presents Flu Prevention, a presentation designed to help people become more aware about the dangers of flu and how to keep the germs away, at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Friday, Sept. 14, at 11:45 a.m.
Veronica Galas and Nicki Aaker from Carson City Health and Human Services will lead the discussion.
“This year marks the 100th anniversary of one of the deadliest disease outbreaks in history, in 1918, 500 million people became ill with the Spanish flu.” Galas, said. “Vaccines are one of the most important ways to prevent these kinds of disease outbreaks.”
We need everyone’s help and especially seniors, in making sure history doesn’t repeat itself, Galas said.
“We will be providing information and tips regarding vaccines recommendations, the importance of vaccinations and debunking myths often heard about vaccinations,” Galas said. “We will also talk about the new 2018 vaccine for shingles and how it compares to other shingles vaccines.”
In addition, the presentation will include a question and answer period and each attendee will receive hand sanitizer as a give-away.
The presentation is free of charge and open to the public. Raffle tickets will be handed at the door for the chance to win a Costco Wholesale store gift card sponsored by Carson City’s Costco store.
Carson City Triad provides health and safety related information monthly at the Senior Center. Triad is a collaboration between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department and Senior Center.
