Indians prepare for winter: The Washoes are flocking into our town in large numbers. The men are seeking employment and grub, and the women packing themselves, their babies and their big baskets. Wood sawings can be had cheap and ragbags are to be emptied to the pleasure of appreciative squaws.

Died: In Genoa, Mrs. Harriet M. Dake, aged 37 years, 1 month and 5 days. The funeral will take place on Sunday at 2 o’clock p.m.

Baptist Church: The First Baptist Church will have a groundbreaking for a new structure on the four acre, two block site purchased by the church on North Mountain at Bath Street. Duane Barrett will preach the sermon. The congregation has been without a permanent church since an explosion caused by a leaking gas main in November 1965.

Handsomely decorated: The stage was decorated on the occasion of holding the Union Republican Convention. There was a full-length portrait of Grant, lent for the occasion by Perry and Irwin of Virginia City. The two beautiful bouquets of flowers upon the President’s desk were grown in Mose Haines’ garden.

All sorts: Dorsey Noteware’s horse ran away yesterday. Miss Edith White is quite sick with mountain fever. The Carson Guards paraded last night with the band. The music was a surprise to the people on the sidewalk.

Victim of gas and shell: Mrs. W. H. Bliss has had word from her brother, Stanley Power, serving with the forces in France that he was in an army hospital undergoing treatment for the effects of gas and being struck with shrapnel from a bursting shell.

Dog Stolen: Lance Nightingill’s dog “Count” has been stolen by some sneaking fellow. The brotherhood of hunters should keep a sharp look out for the purloined animal. The dog is much “more account” than the rascal who stole him.

Good Templars’ Ball: The Good Templars’ ball in aid of the destitute and suffering people in Carson will take place at the Carson Opera House. The object of this entertainment is certain to appeal to the sympathy of all good people in this city.

40th Anniversary: The residence of Rev. G. R. Davis was crowded with his friends and neighbors who came to assist him in celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary. The contracting parties were unable to secure a license as the County Clerk would not issue one without the consent of the bride’s parents. Chief Justice Hawley accordingly performed the ceremony on his own hook, and it was determined to go ahead with the festivities. There were refreshments and hilarity until late hours. The Carson band invaded the yard at 9 o’clock and discoursed splendid music for an hour.

Spanish influenza: C. L. Deady received a letter from Bert and Lance. The worker wires that his regiment is stationed at Camp Upton, Long Island, with 100,000 soldiers boys in quarantine. Will Karge and George Whitaker are also stationed in the same camp.

Nevada Day: The theme of Nevada Day will be “Space Age Frontier.” Rules and awards to be presented were announced by William Goni, parade chairman.

Adams House: The Adams House, a craftsman style home, was recommended by the hospital’s building committee for restoration and use by the hospital foundation. Re-roofing and insulation of the home would cost $4,800.
