Carson City supervisors to review legislative bills

On Thursday, the Board of Supervisors will decide whether to support a handful of bills in the 80th Session of the Nevada Legislature.

Four of the bills — Assembly Bills 21 and 82, and Senate Bills 12 and 13 — are sponsored by the Nevada Association of Counties.

Another bill, SB 48, also sponsored by NACO and being considered separately, would authorize local governments to impose diesel taxes under certain circumstances.

The supervisors will also look at three bills — AB 3 and 18, and SB 10 — sponsored by the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities. AB 3 would authorize the Department of Taxation to issue additional marijuana licenses at the request of the governing body of an incorporated city.

The board will also convene as the Board of Health and hear from Nicki Aaker, director, Carson City Health and Human Services, about legislative matters concerning public health.

The health board will also consider revising its bylaws.

The 2019-2020 fiscal year budget process begins in earnest with a vote on the property tax rate, which state taxation requires by Feb. 22.

The supervisors will vote whether to accept the 2019 Master Plan report from the Planning Commission. Recommendations include adopting accessory dwelling standards, reviewing Title 18 development standards, and several land use map corrections.

The board will get an update on the city’s motel code enforcement work, including ongoing reports on five motels.
