‘Myths and Facts of Hospice’ presentation in Carson City

Carson City Nevada Triad presents Myths and Facts of Hospice, a presentation designed to help people become more aware about the many resources, programs and services offered and debunk any myths previously heard.

The event will take place in the Nevada Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Tuesday, Jan. 15, from noon-1 p.m.

Courtney Warner, executive director of the Carson City Senior Center, said this is your opportunity to educate yourself before you’re in a medical crisis — to know what hospice is all about, so you can make the best educated decision for yourself or loved one.

Lauren O’Farrell, admissions counselor for Infinity Hospice, and Bobby Davis, social worker, will lead the discussion.

“As we age, our lives change and our responsibilities to ourselves, our loved ones and friends can change too,” O’Farrell said. “Having an understanding of what services are available to you when you need them is extremely important for our progression in life.”

It’s important to know and understand what hospice used to mean and what it means today, O’Farrell said. The presentation will cover the myths, explain who needs and qualifies for hospice, who pays, and so much more.

“Bobby and I will provide handouts containing information and resources,” she said. “Infinity Hospice giveaway items will also be distributed.”

The presentation is free of charge and open to the public. Refreshments sponsored by Infinity Hospice will be provided during the presentation.

As a reminder, starting with this presentation, Triad will move to the third Tuesday of each odd month starting at noon in the Nevada Room at the Senior Center. Presentations will be 45 to 60 minutes long and provide more depth on each topic.

Warner said lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. and issued an invitation to community members to come have chicken tetrazzini prior to the presentation. Lunch is $6 for non-seniors and a suggested donation of $2.25 for seniors.

Carson City Triad provides health and safety related information monthly at the Senior Center. Triad is a collaboration between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department and Senior Center.
