Sisolak names New York educator as Nevada superintendent

Gov. Steve Sisolak has named New York education official Jhone (Joan) Ebert as the new state superintendent of public instruction.

Ebert will replace Steve Canavero, who resigned last month.

Ebert has served as a senior deputy commissioner at the New York State Education Department since 2015.

Before that she spent 25 years in the Clark County School District, rising from a math teacher to the chief innovation and productivity officer and chief technology officer.

She starts her job on April 2.
