Partnership Carson City, founded to develop a healthy community, and other partners are educating the community about how to safely dispose of prescription drugs this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Smith's Food and Drug Store, located at 599 E William St. Additionally, Partnership will have a collection box for safe disposal of sharps (syringes) and providing free Deterra Bags for safe-at-home disposal and lockboxes for storage.
“Our goal is to focus on the importance of safe disposal of prescription drugs, something that can be quite harmful to others,” said Diana Alonso, Hispanic outreach coordinator and community health worker at Partnership. “We’ll also be helping with proper disposal of sharp or syringes and educating the public on how to safely dispose of outdated or unused prescription medication, and the benefits of doing so — including keeping the drugs out of the wrong hands or contaminating our ecosystem.”
A Deterra bag is a ready-to-go drug disposal kit that safely breaks down drugs within the small bag allowing for proper disposal. Bags are available for individuals or businesses.
