Mission Statement:

Assistance League is an all-volunteer organization that transforms the lives of children and adults through community programs.

Assistance League volunteers take over 3,500 deserving students shopping for new clothes to improve self-esteem.

Goals:

This all-volunteer organization thrives on transforming lives and strengthening our community. Goals include:

  • Increasing the clothing and supplies we provide to elementary, middle, and selected high school students.
  • Providing WCSD teachers with monetary awards for field trips and academic projects not funded by the school district.
  • Increasing literacy by reading to and providing books for pre-school children.
  • Increasing opportunities for personal and professional advancement through scholarships at TMCC.
  • Supporting homebound, homeless, and female veterans.
  • Providing groceries to seniors each month, including many homebound seniors.
  • Helping assault survivors by providing clothing and supplies.
  • Resharing items we cannot sell in our Thrift Shop with other local nonprofit organizations.
  • Enriching the lives of our volunteers by making a difference in the community.

Fundraising:

The Assistance League Thrift Shop is open at 1701 Vassar Street, Reno, from 10am to 4pm Tuesday through Saturday. Donations are accepted from 10am to 3pm Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Donations to support Assistance League’s programs are gratefully accepted at the Thrift Shop and through “Donate” at the website.

Assistance League volunteers sort coats for the Veterans Stand Down.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Become a member and help work at our 11 philanthropic programs and our Thrift Shop (our main source of funding). We are looking for men and women who want to give back to our community. For those who are still working, our Charmanta organization meets in the evening and provides volunteer opportunities for those with limited hours.

Giving Opportunities:

We will always gratefully accept donations via our Paypal account at our website or checks delivered to the Thrift Shop or mailed to the address above. Additionally, we accept donations of gently used clothing, furniture, art, and housewares at our Thrift Shop.
