Cox Business and the Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Nevada are partnering to dole out two $5,000 prizes for a current or future small business owner who is also a member of the GLCCNV.

“What a tremendous opportunity for members of the Chamber to have a shot at financial assistance and professional support to help launch a big idea, expand knowledge or skills,” Chamber President Tim Haughinberry said in a Feb. 2 statement. “Our partnership with Cox Business is our first corporate alignment since expanding to becoming the Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce of Nevada in 2019, a move that has led to significant membership growth and the creation of opportunities for partnerships such as this.”

Applications are available at www.glccnv.org and are due by 5 p.m. March 19.

According to the GLCCNV, the “Big Idea” $5,000 entrepreneurial grant is designed to offer financial assistance to help launch a big idea. It is intended to support creativity, growth and the entrepreneurial spirit.

Meanwhile, the “Entrepreneur Educational $5,000 Scholarship” will offer financial assistance to help a current or future small-business owner with an investment in their business education.

The grant and scholarship recipients will also receive mentoring support from prominent leaders within Nevada’s LGBTQ+ business community and Cox Business, according to GLCCNV.

“Inclusion and diversity are part of Cox’s DNA,” Cox Business Vice President Derrick Hill said in a statement. “For the third year in a row, Cox has been named a 2021 Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality by the Human Rights Campaign and once again received a perfect score on their Corporate Equality Index.”
