Through July 30, Nevada State Bank branches are accepting new school supplies donations to support Communities In Schools of Western Nevada’s Fill the Bus School Supplies Drive, the bank announced recently.Items needed include backpacks, markers and colored pencils, binders, index cards, wide and college-ruled paper, dry-erase markers, Post-It notes, pencil sharpeners, pencil cases and pouches, and composition notebooks. School uniforms, athletic shoes and socks, and underwear for boys and girls also will be accepted. Those looking to make a monetary donation instead can do so at this link: bit.ly/3xXHehm.“Our hope is that these branch collections make it easy for the community to donate school supplies throughout the month. Simply drop your school supplies off at any Reno-area NSB branch, and we’ll take care of the rest,” Melissa Uhrich, vice president, HR business partner for Nevada State Bank and member of the nonprofit’s advisory council, said in a July 7 statement. “No child should start the school year without the supplies that can help them succeed.”
Greater Nevada Credit Union is also participating; according to a July 12 press release, every GNCU branch will accept donations through Aug. 17.“Providing students with the tools and resources they need to succeed in school is the foundation to a greater community for today and for tomorrow,” Danny DaLaRosa, chief development officer at GNCU, said in a statement. “We’re proud to partner with Education Alliance of Washoe County and Communities in Schools to support this vision of a brighter future for all.”The supplies will be delivered to Communities In Schools of Western Nevada, the local affiliate of the nation’s leading dropout prevention program.Cash donations can also be accepted online at the Education Alliance website: Ed-Alliance.org/Donate.
