With health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic slowly improving thanks to increased vaccinations, Northern Nevada has led the way in the Silver State in terms of economic recovery due to its pivot over the past decade to encourage migration of businesses in the advanced manufacturing, logistics and tech sectors to the region, among others.
That pivot has led to unprecedented increases in population to Northern Nevada over the past several years, with tens of thousands of additional residents projected to relocate here in the coming years.
With
unprecedented growth comes increased pressure on Northern Nevada's builders and contractors to keep pace by erecting both luxury and affordable housing, as well as large-scale commercial renovation projects and new developments across the industrial, office, multifamily and retail sectors.
While the future looks bright in some aspects for the industry, it is not without challenges. With that in mind, panelists on July 8
are expected to cover several important topics, such as:- how the construction industry is rebounding from the pandemic and what the outlook looks like for summer 2021 and beyond,
- how supply chain issues, labor shortages and increased pricing on lumber and other materials are impacting timelines for commercial and residential projects,
- how Northern Nevada’s booming population growth — both pre- and post-pandemic — in part due to the continuing California exodus is putting pressure on developers; and
- how the region’s red-hot housing market is influencing both the region’s economic profile and builders’ ability to pump out affordable homes.
