1st Lt. Emerson Marcus has replaced Lt. Col. Mickey Kirschenbaum as public affairs officer, overseeing the Nevada National Guard’s communications department, the Guard announced April 23.
Marcus has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and master's in history from the University of Nevada, Reno. He worked five years as a reporter at the Reno Gazette Journal before joining the Nevada National Guard public affairs staff as the command historian in 2015.
Additionally, since 2018, he has served as the public affairs officer of the 152nd Airlift Wing, Nevada Air National Guard.
Kirschenbaum, a 36-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, has served as Nevada National Guard public affairs officer since 2015. He is transferring to the Arizona National Guard.
“Community is one of my five strategic priorities,” Maj. Gen. Ondra Berry, Nevada’s adjutant general, said in a statement. “Lt. Col. Kirschenbaum has done a great job in his role communicating with the public and fostering a commitment to transparency and good relations with our communities across the great state of Nevada and the nation.
“I wish him well in his new pursuits and remain extremely confident in Lt. Marcus’ experience and abilities as the next state public affairs officer.”
