Silver State International, a full-service truck dealership based in Sparks, recently donated a new Allison transmission to the Drive Train course at Truckee Meadows Community College.

The company made the donation in partnership with Sacramento-based Weller Truck Parts, a national manufacturer and distributor of medium and heavy-duty drivetrain products.

“The Drive Train courses introduce and reinforce knowledge of medium and heavy-duty automatic transmissions and drive trains, including study in components, maintenance, diagnostics and repair,” according to an April 28 press release. “These courses prepare students for the ASE Certification Examination in Medium/Heavy Duty Drive Trains, which assures the learner's ability to succeed as an entry-level, Heavy Duty Drive Train technician specialist.”

The donation of the transmission will allow students to work with a more relevant product that is used in medium and heavy-duty vehicles, officials said.
