Charles Harris, President and CEO of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, joined the board of directors of the U.S. Travel Association this month.

This appointment “gives Reno Tahoe an authoritative voice in addressing key industry issues in the post-pandemic tourism recovery and supporting the Washington D.C.-based organization’s mission to increase travel nationally,” according to a May 13 press release from RSCVA.

“I’m honored to join such a prestigious organization and to support the recovery of the tourism industry across the U.S.,” Harris said in a statement. “The U.S. Travel Association will be a key player in the recovery of national travel, and I’m eager to be a voice for the destination of Reno Tahoe as we work to ensure a brighter future for our destination and for the industry as a whole.”

The U.S. Travel Association regularly produces travel data, analysis and insights to keep lawmakers and industry leaders informed; the board provides the organization with direction, approves budget, addresses issues in the industry, and serves as a liaison and voice for all members.

“We warmly welcome Charles Harris and the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority to the U.S. Travel board,” Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, said in a statement. “Charles’ extensive leadership in destination marketing and the importance of the Reno Tahoe region to the economy will be very helpful in advancing policies and programs to revive our nation’s travel and tourism industry.”

Harris took over as RSCVA CEO in November 2020. Previously, he was Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of Public Affairs for Visit Anaheim, among other roles.
