The nonprofit PBS Reno announced last week two of its local productions, “ARTEFFECTS” and “Wild Nevada,” have earned three Gold Communicator Awards of Excellence and two Communicator Awards of Distinction, respectively. PBS Reno won three Gold Communicator Awards of Excellence for three stories featured in ARTEFFECTS, a PBS Reno-produced series that has shined a light on local artists and arts organizations since 2016. The winning segments feature chain stitch artist Tina Vines, Standup Comedy, and The Art of Fly Tying, according to a May 17 press release. ARTEFFECTS is PBS Reno’s most award-winning series to date. More than 80 local segments have been picked up for national distribution among other PBS member stations. Locally produced segments have been broadcast in Sacramento, Salt Lake City, New York, Boston, Detroit and Cleveland, among others. “The arts community here is amazing and has endless talent,” Megan Myers, PBS Reno Vice President of Content and Marketing, said in a statement. “At PBS Reno, we are proud to tell these stories to our community and far beyond.” PBS Reno also earned two Communicator Awards of Distinction for two episodes of Wild Nevada: River to River and Goldfield to Tonopah. “PBS Reno has a long history of producing more and better content than should be expected from a station of its size,” Dave Santina, PBS Reno Director of Local Content, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled that the Communicator Awards chose to honor the station’s content team and extend the PBS Reno legacy of award-winning work.” The Communicator Awards are judged and overseen by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA).
