Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation has announced Russ Pedersen has been named vice president of the nonprofit’s board of directors.
After beginning his service with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy sheriff in 1997, Pedersen gained a full range of command and leadership experience in all three bureaus: administrative, detention, and operations.
Pedersen graduated from the 254th session of the FBI National Academy in September 2013 and worked as a chief deputy for two different sheriffs.
He has served in a multitude of specialty and command assignments, including Civil Division, Regional Aviation Unit, Northern Nevada Regional Law Enforcement Academy, Dispatch Communications, Training, Backgrounds, and Search and Rescue, where he was awarded the Vincent G. Swinney Medal for Excellence in Search and Rescue.
His experiences have taught him the importance of teamwork, multi-agency collaboration, and community support. Since Pedersen retired as captain of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, he has continued to help others with home projects and enjoys watching his children grow up to be strong and confident young adults.
A dedicated member of the Northern Nevada community, Pedersen is grateful to have the opportunity to work with passionate individuals throughout the area that love serving the community as much as he does.
