People: Robert Thompson named administrator of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services

Nevada Department of Health and Human Services Director Richard Whitley has announced that Robert Thompson has been appointed as administrator of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services.

Steve Fisher, who has served as administrator since 2014, is retiring after 24 years of service.

 
Through Fisher’s time with DWSS, he has been part of many improvements to enhance the division’s ability to efficiently provide services to Nevada’s citizens during times of crisis, economic downturn and pandemic.

Thompson has been with DWSS for 22 years and has served in many roles. He has been part of the DWSS management team since 2011 and was promoted to deputy administrator in 2018. He has been responsible for the policy and program administration for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Medicaid, energy assistance program, employment and training programs and the SNAP Nutrition-Ed and outreach programs.
