Besides breaking ground this summer on a new hotel in north Caron City, Metcalf, the Reno-based construction company, broke ground in early July on a new commercial development off Market Street between Walmart and Home Depot.
The 55,000-square-foot North Carson Crossing development has been planned to house a Sprouts market and Planet Fitness. Sprouts likens the grocery operation to a farmers market offering fresh produce seven days a week, according to the company’s website.
“I think it speaks to just Northern Nevada in general,” Metcalf President and CEO Bryce Clutts said when asked about the different types of projects in Carson and the region. “This is a very diversified economy. We’re not beholden to simply hospitality and gaming and tourism. Carson City, Carson Valley, Reno/Sparks — they’re more than just a gaming community, more than just a tourism community, and I think we’re seeing that in the development that is happening all the way from Gardnerville to North Valleys.”
Clutts said development is difficult with current interest rates and construction costs but that companies like Metcalf can be creative and proactive to get projects across the finish line.
“They’re dealing with the narrowest of margins, we’re dealing with the narrowest of margins, so you have to be creative in times like these,” he said.
Clutts estimated construction on North Carson Crossing to be completed by summer 2025.
