Touting a gym that relies on infrared energy to help people detox, the new HOTWORX chain is taking the world by storm. It opened its first gym in February 2017 in Mississippi and has since added 700 locations worldwide.
In August 2023, Dallas and Khrystal Kester opened a HOTWORX in Reno’s Meadowood Square (6405 S. Virginia St., Suite 4) and quickly became crowned “Best New Business” in Northern Nevada in the NNBW’s 2024 Best in Business contest.
“Step into the heat, sweat it out, and leave feeling unstoppable. Every HOTWORX session is a chance to reset, recharge, and crush your goals — making it the highlight of your day,” says the HOTWORX Reno Facebook page.
Combining heat, exercise, and infrared in a patented model, HOTWORX allows people to experience the benefits of infrared heat absorption as they complete a 30-minute Isometric or 15-minute High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout. As a person exercises, the infrared heat soaks into the system creating sweat and the isometric postures during the workout further accelerate detoxification through muscle contraction.
“The infrared energy makes it so much different than anything else,” Khrystal says of how HOTWORX is unique from any other type of gym. “As (members) do their exercises, the infrared energy is working alongside them. You’re not as sore after a workout and it’s really good for the mind and body.
“It helps you lose weight; you’re burning a lot more calories and detoxing better than anything else. The (infrared energy) will focus on a part of the organ and exercise is pushing those toxins out of the body,” she said.
Khrystal explains that it was her husband’s idea to open a HOTWORX. “He’s into fitness and thought it’d be good for the community. It’s so good for the mind and body, all of us with our busy lives and dealing with stress. And it helps you sleep better,” she says.
One of HOTWORX’s mottos is “More Exercise, Less Time” letting more people squeeze an effective detoxifying workout in less amount of time before getting back to their busy days.
HOTWORX is all about combining energy, heat, and exercise to create optimal health.
“We’re open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. People can do 15-minute or 30-minute sessions, and it’s unlimited. You can burn 300-400 calories in 15 minutes; to do that normally you’d have to be on a treadmill for at least an hour,” Khrystal says. “You’re heating the body from the inside out,” she says, likening it to a deep fryer. “And it keeps working even after you’re done with your workouts.
“We have lots of people who come every day, or at least a couple of times a week. It depends on what their goals are… stress relief, get better sleep, recover from pain. One girl comes in with rheumatoid arthritis, and it helped her get off her medication. Another comes in because it helps with her hot flashes. It helps people with their blood pressure, recover from injuries… we have a lady who’s been with us since we opened, she burned 300,000 calories this year which is quite a milestone; she comes in every day,” says Khrystal.
“It’s just something totally different and it works, so we’re always expanding,” Khrystal says.
