RICE Hydro, located in Carson City congratulates the University of Colorado Boulder, Sounding Rocket Laboratory on its successful launch and recovery of their Obsidian rocket.
This student developed rocket reached Mach 2 and an altitude of 35,000 feet. CU SRL testing was made possible by sponsorship from RICE Hydro, utilizing the HP-10 Hydrostatic Test Pump during rocket development.
Additional testing is currently underway for the launch of the Mamba rocket where students hope to achieve Mach 3 and 100,000 feet.
The final rocket in the series is hoped to penetrate into space, defined by the Kármán line at an altitude of 62 miles above sea level.
CU SRLs accomplishments have enabled students to launch careers in the aerospace industry.
