People: Carlen Thomas earns promotion at Walton’s Funerals and Cremations

Walton’s Funerals and Cremations announced Carlen Thomas has been promoted to manager of three of its Carson City and Gardnerville locations.

Thomas, formerly a funeral director with the company, brings more than 20 years of industry experience having previously worked at a funeral home in Clark County.

In her previous role, she provided compassionate care to families in their time of need and assisted with pre-planning funeral services.

In her new role as manager and funeral director, Thomas will oversee the planning, directing, and coordination of operations at Walton’s Funerals and Cremations, Chapel of the Valley, and Walton’s Funerals and Cremations in Gardnerville.

Prior to her career in the death care industry, Thomas worked for Microsoft Corp., for 10 years. She joined the company in 1989, during the paradigm shift from DOS-based operating systems to Windows and played a key role in convincing diverse stakeholders — ranging from board members to end users — of the benefits of adopting Windows, ultimately contributing to the widespread use of Microsoft applications and the vision of personal computing.

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in Utah. She is currently an active member of The Compassionate Friends.
